Crossing the list off

admin July 7th, 2008

Determined to get some of the things crossed off of my list, I finally got around to hand-washing some of my clothes.

My long sleeved hoodie top (more like a jumper), 2 pairs of stockings, my shorts… and my red/black lace up g-string (which I wondered long and hard about whether I should or shouldn’t wash… in case dad sees it). Oh well, in it goes.

Not sure what some of the instructions actually meant, I dumped them one by one in the basin full of cold water and added an arbitrary amount of washing powder and started washing them.

I had trouble with one particular; that thick hoodie- I had rinsed it about 5 times with clean water yet soapy water still runs through. Getting a bit impatient, I commented it to dad.

“How many scoops did you use for those 5 articles?” he asked.
“A quarter of a scoop?” (I hadn’t the heart to tell him I actually used half a scoop…)
“That’s too much!”

Oops! I’ll keep that in mind…

Procrastinator’s procrastination

admin July 7th, 2008

I’d a few things I said I’d do in my holidays during the semester. So now that I’m on holidays, there are no more excuses.

Except, I always find myself putting them off. They aren’t big or anything, I’m just… I needed a rest (inner self: true that), doing other things (inner self: do them later!), or just lazy (mum: that’s no excuse!).

Here are a few things that was on my list couple days ago… I’m hoping that posting them on this blog will serve as a lovely subtle reminder. Cough.

  • Buy a few things:
    1. Personal girly things (i.e. fash wash… sanitary essentials…)
I actually did that yesterday with my mum… but that wasn’t because I was bothered… but I was starting to really need it. Blush.
    2. Rubber gloves.
So I can hand wash some clothes I’ve worn during the semester but never managed to wash. Which is why I’ve been putting this off as well.
But again, I bought these yesterday whilst shopping with mum, who kindly reminded me of it… Sigh.
    3. Medium envelope.
To send out the skirt I sold on eBay. But the buyer hasn’t paid yet, so I’ll leave that till later…
    4. Keyboard.
My keyboard is really really hard to press on, and since I developed RSI studying for my exams, Andrew and I switched so I can write notes on the computer… till I get myself a new one.
I put this one off initially because I didn’t want to spend money (I decided not to go back to work these holidays… well, not just yet anyway, I need some quality time for myself), but now I’m putting it off because Andrew told me to; he might be able to get a discount, says he =]
    5. Buying a gift.
Simply cos I don’t know what to get. Perhaps someone can recommend some gifts for a 2 year anniversary…
  • Organise a few outings as we’ve been neglecting one another because of uni:
    • My girls.
We haven’t seen each other for a really long time! And whom Imiss awfully! I must take initiative…sometime soon…
    • Jess.
Whom I had actually called and “arranged” to go out “sometime”… but haven’t set an actual date yet. Oh and it must be on a weekend as she is occupied Monday to Friday.
    • Mary.
Before semester 1 started, we organised something but something got in the way, so we decided to go out in the holidays. And I was going to ask her, but she (being the more organised one) beat me to it. We’re going out this Thursday night at 6pm for dinner and shopping.
    • Uni friends.
Because we hardly get to see each other for various reasons (everyone is doing their own thing, we’re taking different subjects because we’re majoring in different things, we don’t gym together from lack of time… etc). And… me, being really really organised, haven’t organised any thus far again.
I actually just received a message 2 minutes ago from a uni friend asking if we wanted to see a movie and have lunch on the Wednesday.
    • Other high school friends.
I haven’t seen them since forever!!! I’ll get off my lazy ass soon enough though…
    • My boyfriend.
Our 2 year anniversary is on the 14th this month, which is next Monday… but he works on weekdays…
  • Check results.
It comes out on the 10th or 11th July! I can’t wait (don’t need a reminder but it was on my list)!
  • Hand wash clothes.
  • Decide whether  should go to a few places:
    • Opeth concert (before the tickets get sold out!): it’s during week 6 of the next semester… mid-semester break is between week 9 and 10…
    • 2 Weddings: I know they’re a must, especially since they’re direct relatives, but finishing 3rd year uni with a good average is also very important!

Hence concludes my list thus far.

Some things I love at the moment are…

admin July 1st, 2008

A random post today. Here are some of the things I’ve been in love with recently or for a while now… some to the point where I think it’s starting to become unhealthy bug me:

  1. The L word’s Shane (Katherine Moennig)
I’ve been catching up on watching The L Word lately. Saw it on TV couple years ago, watched a bit but never really got around to it… And I fell in love with Shane; her on-screen personality, looks and style… hair, dress sense (her in the suit really does it for me).., oh so perfect! I love her!
    Shane1Shane2Shane3
  2. School girl skirts (or any mini skirt will do!)
Even before it became big, I’ve always had a massive fetish obsession with school girl skirts. Need I say more?
    sgs1sgs3sgs2
  3. Demonia shoes
Oh man, I’ve been dying to get a pair of boots (preferably knee-highs), but I went into shop after shop, and couldn’t find any that I liked. In desperation, I browsed online, and fell in love with Demonia. Only problem is that I’ve yet to find a retailer with a huge range, and not that expensive either. I don’t want to buy it online ‘cos of postage, and I’m not able to try them on… I can’t wait till I see these in real life!
    dem1dem2dem3
  4. Leah Dizon
I have a huge thing for halfies - and so does half of the world (or more than that, like every other statistic, is made up on the spot)… And I think Leah Dizon is really cute! Who doesn’t mind a Chinese/Filipino/French model/actress/Japanese pop singer? (She’s even posing in school girl uniform too! See?)
    ld1ld2ld3
  5. Guitar pick jewelry
I love my music heaps and heaps! And I love jewelry. So what better way to wear your favourite band than making guitar pick jewelry?! I’ve even been browsing a few picks to buy (unfortunately, some of my favourite bands don’t have picks! I still love them though)!
Only problem is that I can’t actually make them myself, but Andrew’s mum is going to bead of something that looks like picture 3:
    gpj1gpj3gpj2
  6. Gothic/punk clothing and accessories
All the lovely things that are or go with lolita/gothic/punk fashion! *hearts*
    gp1gp2gp3
  7. Demotivators
Just when things get bad, I find these little beauties… Yeah, they help heaps don’t they?
    demo1demo2 demo3
  8. LOLCats
SO cute and funny! >.< For when demotivators don’t help.
    lol1lol2lol3
  9. Pon and Zi
Who has a bigger love than Pon, anyone?
    pz1pz3pz2
  10. Tattoos
Have always wanted a tatt… I really love the tatts by the Miami Ink guys! I wish I can go there just for a tatt, free-style. I especially love their shading, their use of colour (or lack thereof)… everything they do turns out perfect! Anyway, here are some designs (not necessarily from them) that I thought were cool.
    tatt1tatt2tatt3
  11. Kimono, yukata, waloli
There’s just something about these… I never knew I’d think traditional clothing as hot! So had to buy one I like… and I think they’re mad expensive too…
    kimonokywkyw2
  12. Lace-ups, lacing, lace… Fishnets
    lace1lace2lace3
  13. Animals/pets
I didn’t use to like animals, not at all. After moving here, one of the neighbour’s cat kept playing wth us whenever we go for our walks… and we can’t help but feel affection for it.
I want a pet now but my dad’s right, “How can you take care of a pet when you can’t even take care of yourself?!” Sigh. Still love them though, how adorable are they!!!
    cubhermit crabcat
  14. Random stuff
I love pictures - some really do tell a thousand words, so let these speak for itself

That’s all for now!

BSc Adv. Sci., year 3, semester 1

admin June 27th, 2008

So it’s officially the holidays now for this poor old uni student… Let’s have a little recap of my whole semester.

Where to start? I guess at the uttermost beginning?

Well, it has been quite a tough semester for me (tension headaches, lack of appetite, lack of sleep, exhaustion), and I know I’m not the only one because my friends have been pretty stressed out themselves (2 threw up… stress-induced).

Ok, scratch tough, it was HELL! And that doesn’t even begin to describe it! No exaggeration. Usually I love studying, it has been hard but nowhere, nowhere, nowhere near this!!

Let’s see… let’s start with changes that occurred to the uni itself this semester:

  • 14 week semester has been reduced to 12 weeks
Implication: same amount of work in less amount of time, which is crazy mad for us… we have at least something major due or a quiz/exam/test each week! The average for me was 3 assessments a week…
I had to miss out on a Porcupine Tree concert to study for the mid-semester exams (I had 3 that following week)… and anyone that know me well will know how important this was for me, how little I go out regardless, and how badly I broke down because I couldn’t make it! Their first tour in Australia, and they’ve been around for 20 years! But I’ve been convinced they’ll be back, someday soon.
  • Cutback on our STUVAC (study vacation)
Was initially about a week, now checking my student diary consisted of a Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday - barely enough time to go through 4 full third year subjects!
  • Winter sessions taken away
    Implications: overloading (below).
  • BSc (Adv) and BMedSci WAM (weighted average mark) increased from 65 to 70
A few of my friends from Bsc (Adv) and BMedSci who has a WAM below 70 received warning emails, informing them if they don’t increase their average, they will get dropped down to BSc… Ever since knowing the possibility of dropping down to BSc, I had been feeling the pressure more than ever!
A BMedSci friend later told me that they have been told that changes have only been applied to newcomers, which relieved me for a bit before she told me that it mightn’t be the same for BSc (Adv)!! (Thanks so much.. ><)
  • Examination changes
Here’s an excerpt of the email we received. But to sum up, we are having:

    • Shorter exam period
    • 3 exams per day schedule
    • Exams on Saturday
  • Mid-semester break between week 2 and 3
After 3 months of break, having a uni break after the 2nd week of uni is rather… y’know. So after that is a period continuous studying for 10 weeks.
BUT, this didn’t concern me as I had to attend lab 9 to 5 daily for bacteria and disease laboratory work (which I really enjoyed, don’t get me wrong! In fact, I thought it was the best part of the course!)

So that was already giving me a hard time. Ranting on, these were the things I found personally stressful for me:

  • Overloading
As if four full subjects wasn’t enough on my plate, I (stupidly) decided to overload, another half subject (3UOC general education) instead of trying to do it in the summer session in case it spots get filled up since winter session has been taken away
  • My final exam timetable (5 exams in 7 days)
    • 13/06 MICR3041 (Immunology)
    • 16/06 BIOC3111 (Molecular biology of proteins)
    • 18/06 BIOC3261 (Molecular biology of nucleic acids: theory)
    • 18/06 MICR3081 (Bacteria and Disease)
    • 19/06 BIOC3261 (Molecular biology of nucleic acids: practical)
  • Changes towards the end of the final exams
Full story here - but basically, I was a victim of 2 exam rescheduling:

    • 18/06 MICR3081 moved to 19/06
    • 19/06 BIOC3261 moved to 21/06

So there you have it, a summary of what I had gone through in the past 13-14 weeks. Don’t be discouraged from third year science after reading this because rest assured, people do survive from things like this… (just barely in my case)…

Hope all students enjoy their hard earned, much needed holidays!

Random by day and random by night

admin April 2nd, 2008

One of my only days which I start uni later is on the Wednesday (yay - midweek!); all other days I start at 9am. That usually isn’t so bad, but since the beginning of this semester, the UNSW bus line at Central has been horrific (I have yet to take a picture of the line because I am usually late to class, even though previous years I was never late)…

Anyway, today, a Wednesday (God bless), I was doing some research for my essay (bacteria and disease) at home until 10:30am to get readied to go. Grandpa wandered (with his pension train ticket) around and decided to pop in for a visit, and that just before 11am. Not expecting me, he was surprised to find me still at home. On a whim, he decided to cath the train to Central with me. We had a great catch up talk, the grand-father/daughter talk and quickly arrived at destination.

We walked to my bus line (relatively packed, but NOTHING compared to the 8:30am ones) and he bade me goodbye as I waited for the bus (came at around 10 mins later)… I looked around and saw that he was still waiting till I hopped on the bus… o.o; I merely got to my lab on time (1pm)… which was weird considering I actually left home earlier than other Wednesdays…

***

So I got home from my quite-random 4-hour “DNA” lab today absolutely smashed, having done tideous things (such as loading an agarose gel with DNA samples) to really unusual things (e.g. sterilising carrots so we can introduce tumours in them over a 10 week period… and by sterilising, it must be VERY sterile! Or the carrot would rot by the end of the 10 weeks).

So I had dinner, walked a bit and watched a little bit of tv before heading for a catnap since I’d have to stay up to study for a test tomorrow (worth 15%)!

I woke up at around 9:30pm, groggy but starting to get refreshed… and tried to study. Noting I actually wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was, I started to stress.

And then my brother comes in and tells me to print his assignment off…

Back to studies… or rather, staring at the book hoping it’d absorb into my head mysteriously…

Next he came in with a piece of paper telling me what he’s been warned of a suspension! WHAT’S THAT? My brother, the most well-behaved teenage in the school (absolute faith in him: he’s an awesome kid) - warning of suspension?

He explained it was because he was playfully “flicking his tie at his friend because his friend was flicking him with [friend’s] tie…” and they both got warning letters… Ok…? I read the letter - “not tolerated”, “dangerous behaviour”…

Sigh.

That’s it? Ok, so my brother’s still a good boy. Phew.

Moving on, I tried studying again, searching on Google every so often… and then I hear a phone call… at 10:30pm! Who the heck?

Me: Hello?
Receiver: Hello!
Me: OMG! You’re back?! *phone hug*

It was my long lost friend, Fah! She just came back from Bengali (her sister had a wedding there and she skipped some uni days to go to it) and she called me first out of the girls… Missed her and touched with a lot of catching up to do, I stayed on the phone for a while, which really WASN’T a while because when she needed to go, it was midnight. MIDNIGHT! Poor effort.

So I decided to cram for an hour and wake up at 5am to do some more studying (test starts at 9am, and because of the bus line, I must prepare to get there earlier!).

Turning 20…

admin January 18th, 2008

What a peculiar day, I must say! I thought so, my friends knew so, and Tim (the one whom I described the “incidents” to) said so.

But first, some “normal” things.

At uni
Normality

So my 2 week summer course ends today with a 40% website presentation and a 30% final exam. Of course, even though it was a general education course, I was still pretty worried about the whole day.

So I got to class, ready yet nervous for the presentation, thinking that we had to explain every code that we used for the website and all. Turned out I had nothing to worry about at all! -_- He told groups of four to log into the school computers, load our sites and kicked us out of the room. Literally. After marking, he told us to come inside, grab our medium if we used one and then kicked us out of the room once again. Easy.

So we went to the law library, into the seminar rooms so we could “study”. As all study sessions proceed, we ended up cracking Russell Peters jokes, talking about some really random stuff, snacking, reading the papers (uni offers round 1 out today, how exciting!)… and towards the end of the “study session”, realised that we were all screwed! Well, not Andy, but the rest of us were!

Because the class was pretty big, the teacher decided to split the group into 2 to take the test. Julie, Huy, Sharan and I barely made the last 4 spots for the first test session! Phew!

Skip skip skip.

The test was pretty hard >.< Yep, a gen ed final exam was actually hard! I mean, what the hell? Some of the stuff we didn’t even learn about! -_- GAH!

Outing: Food
Weird incident 1

Meanwhile, outside was raining. Rats, why did it have to rain on my birthday? It hasn’t in how long? I don’t know. But longtime!

But seeing that it was my birthday, we decided to double date with Julie and Huy.

So first off, to eat!
Ichiban boshi!

We arrived and there was a huge line. Huy wanted to go somewhere else to eat but I didn’t want to because:

  • I was too bothered
  • It was raining: hard to get around
  • I like eating at Ichiban Boshi~~

So we asked one of the waitresses (who looked European but spoke fluent Japanese!) how long it would be till we get to go in. 20 minutes. Ok, 20 it is!

So after checking out Kinokuniya (a huge bookshop), we came out to wait with the guys. Then… something weird happened.

Some girl and her friends walked past our group, and she kind of stared straight at me, talking to her friend and all. All of us took notice of this but decided to ignore that.

Andy: It might be because she thought she knew you from somewhere.

And still, the staring continued.

Julie: Could she make it anymore obvious?!

And then suddenly, I saw her eyes make a dart to my chest area, staring ever so intently.

Huy: Maybe she’s looking at your badges…

So again, this was ignored, and her head stuck out a tiny bit, eyes still at my chest. At this stage, I was starting to feel a bit… uncomfortable.

Andy: Maybe she has bad eyesight…?

Her eyes wandered up and down a tiny, then fixes on my chest.

Huy: Man, if I wanted to check out your badges, I wouldn’t full stare or anything!

…

Waitress: Number 68.
Me: That’s us!

And I took my things and hurried the heck out of there. Okay, that was “Incident #1″. The meal was great, with Andy drinking a lot of water while finishing up my “very hot ramen”.

Outing: Shopping
Weird Incident 2

We got out of the building, and still it was raining. Julie said to go Myer, so we did. Somehow, we ended up at the lingerie section. Huy wanted to go to the games section so I shoo-ed Andy to go with him while we girls had some “alone time”. We did actually, but with one more person… And this is the beginning of “Incident #2″

Me and Julie were checking out hot hot bras when a saleslady came around and started introducing all the products to us, telling us what they are made of and how “spectacular” and “stunning” they all are.

Saleslady: The change rooms have very long lines so when you both are ready, I’ll pop you into our special change room.

So Julie and I must’ve grabbed 6 items each, giggling about how to escape from the saleslady because man, have you seen the price tags on some of these? And I know I definitely can’t afford things this much!

Ready!

Saleslady: So I’ll pop you in first, Wendy (she got my name wrong but oh well, I’ll be Wendy for a while)
Me: Oh it’s a single change room?
Saleslady: Yeah.
Me: How about we go in together Julie?
Julie: *drags me into the room, pulls the curtain close*

Inside…
Me: Man, this one costs $190!
Julie: Yeah, but they’re hot. I’m going to try this one first.
Me: Maybe I’ll try this one. *Whispers in her ears* How are we gonna escape?!
Julie: Don’t worry. Hey, reckon she thinks we’re lesbians?
Me: *looks in mirror* Yeah actually.

Curtain opens.
Shock.
Covers up.

Saleslady: Oh WOW, this one really pushes up your breast, Julie. See how it gives you that lift?
Me: Yeah, it really does Julie. Looks good.
Julie: Yeah shite!
Saleslady: And the red looks absolutely spectacular on you, Wendy.
Me: I like it actually.
Saleslady: Now hurry and try these one on, girls. *points to see-through red lace bra, disappears out of room*

Me: That was weird!
Julie: Mm. *starts changing* Can you turn around while I change into this one?
Me: Yeah. *hangs around, too embarrassed to try anything*
Saleslady: *pops in* Hi Julie and Wendy, how are you girls doing?
Julie: *covers*
Saleslady: Wendy, why aren’t you changed? Oh wow! Look at you Julie. Oh come on, don’t be shy, we all have breasts.
Julie: But my nipples are showing. *uncovers* Oh wait, you can’t see them much.
Saleslady: So what do you think?
Julie: Yeah I like it.
Saleslady: Now hurry and change into this *indicates to the see-through black lace one and disappears behind curtain*

By the looks of this, makes me wonder if we had a choice anymore? So anyway, by now, we started changing quickly and freely in front of one another before she pays an early visit…

Saleslady: Oh WOW, you both look very stunning! BOTH of you should be advertising for this! So what do you think?
Julie: Definitely like the black more then the red.
Me: Yeah, I agree with her. And I like this too.

Okay, this goes on for at least another 15 minutes with many “you look stunning” or “this is so HOT on you” (and the like) before we both finished changing into all the clothes we took in. Andy called to see where we were so I told them to wait for us outside the lingerie section. So much for being lesbians now…! (Although I am bisexual)

Saleslady: So what do you think, girls?
Lisa: I like the black, not the other. *sees the boyfriends coming back*
Me: Me too, I’m just showing him.

Man, she seems either quite:

  1. Keen on checking out breasts or
  2. A very persistent salesperson.

But they most likely don’t get commission, so I don’t see what they point was.

And we just hung around, the four of us. I think the saleslady must’ve took the hint because she went into the change rooms to serve another lady, leaving us to decide.

Plonk.
RUN!!!

And that was how we escaped.
That was fun!

Evening
Dinner

After, I got home and freshened up a bit before going to have family dinner to celebrate our birthdays (Brandon and I have birthdays on the same day and month). We had some very delicious seafood, took some photos and then went home feeling satisfied.

That night…
Chatting

I explained the whole story to Andy. “I think she’s a lesbian.”

And then I repeated the story to Tim to have this said, “Yep, definitely a lesbian. You could have asked her for an orgy and got her fired!”

After all, I thought it was because of my new hairstyle… or the outfit I was wearing… Which led Tim to one conclusion, “You’re attracting the wrong gender with the haircut.”

Me whacking stupid

Sounds flattering.
But I don’t think so.

So there you have it, my very interesting 20th birthday.

Another day kid-sitting

admin January 13th, 2008

So I’m halfway through my general education course with none of the four assessments tasks complete. So when my uncle called to ask if I wanted a shift for today on Saturday, I told him no.

And I decided Saturday would be my resting day since I was quite worn out due to uni, even when the hours are short because I’ve been in lazy mode prior to this summer course. And plus my brother was staying overnight at aunt Tania’s house and that mean:

  1. More food
  2. No noise

All that is good, had my beauty rest, and Sunday came too soon. Eager (not quite, but kind of have to) to do some of my assignment, I woke up early (ok, 10am isn’t that early but a girl can exaggerate sometimes…), finished eating, popped upstairs, and heard an announcement from mum that aunt My, her husband (uncle Tony) and Katty. And this meant one thing: Mum to pair off with aunt; dad chatting to uncle Tony, and Katty with me (a.k.a. kid-sitting).

I finished my shower, wrapped in a towel (because I didn’t know what to wear), attempted to run to my room before anyone saw me, and found Katty sitting there waiting for my arrival. Oh. Crap! I ran back into the bathroom and told her I’d come out soon, and sneaked to the cupboards when she went downstairs for a brief second, and got dressed.

Phew.

So then she started bouncing, telling me a thousand different things such as her loose teeth falling out and everything.

And like the other post’s distress, I had to keep her occupied for a long time. So we started drawing in my room, having fun and all (but not that much because of the stinking hot weather), eating lollies and just chatting. Then I got scared because I was feeding her lollies and I’m afraid she’d eat too much of that without the mother’s consent (regarding: new teeth).

At about 2pm, we all went to Botoli to eat, Katty riding in the same car as us. We arrived there earlier than Katty’s parents did, and the guy (who loves to talk/joke with dad) came over to our table (as always) and remarked, “So I see you’ve been hiding away your grandchild”. Shocked, I protested… oh my God, don’t even joke about these kind of things! -_-

So the parents came, and we ordered and had our food. Towards the end, uncle Tony insisted to shout this lunch so he paid first. Mum, dad and I had just finished our food when aunt Tania called to tell us to come home as they had dropped Brandon home. Being a really hot day, we decided not to let him wait so long outside so us three went home first (Katty hasn’t finished her food just yet) and aunt My and them to meet us back at home.

Welcome back, biatch! (My brother and I have a weird relationship, right, Habib?)

Anyway, at around 3:30, they three came back to our place, and the original pairings happened. Meaning, no homework, more mucking about.

Ok, now I definitely wouldn’t've minded if I didn’t have assessments on my desk waiting for me to do. But she even gave me homework!

Katty: Can you draw this and this and this and this for me? I’ll get it when I come over next.
Me: But I can’t draw.
Katty: Yes you can. I don’t care if it’s not the best.
Me: But I’m busy.
Katty: Why?
Me: I have to go to school tomorrow.
Katty: Can you draw it after school?
Me: But I’ve got homework.
Katty: After homework?
Me: Hm, only when I finish my homework then.
Katty: *grins* Yay! *starts bookmarking all the pictures she wants me to draw*

Damn.

Why are kids sometimes so persistent!
Or yet, why can’t I ever say no?

Sigh.
Oh well.

So anyway, after a long time (around about 7pm I guess?), they started to leave, and yet again, Katty has left me exhausted.

Okay, now I was really eager to get some work done. Putting all thoughts aside, I started doing the rest of summary 3, and actually finished it.

Horray.

Now time for some sleep.

Kid-sitting for one.

admin January 5th, 2008

So I’ve never really been keen on kids. Nor do kids like me very much (usually).

But there’s this one kid who’s good with everyone just because she is that much of a sweet talker. She’s a smart kid, a kid who puts a smile on your face, a kid who everyone loves and a loves everyone.

And that kid is my 6 year old cousin, Katrina (Katty).

She’s also very hyper, bouncy, talkative… and also a handful. How?

1. She loves to bounce/run/wander everywhere, and our house is laid with tiles all over, and I always worry if she might slip and fall on the cold hard floor. And I always have to watch out for her, follow her around in case anything happens, etc.

2. For the above reason, I can’t do anything else apart from being with her.

3. She loves to talk and wants response, and sometimes I don’t respond because either I don’t know what to say, or my attention is diverted somewhere else.

Uh huh.

Aunt My (mum’s younger sister) came down from the City today to get some stuff back from us and brought Katty along. I was in the middle of making sushi when they arrived, and Katty gave me a big hug and a kiss, and dragged me upstairs to draw with her. And while I’m not good with kids, I really try to be when it comes to her.

So here we were, drawing on my messy desk for the [#]th time, because that’s what she likes to do whenever she sees me. We do that for a while and my mum told me that her and aunt My would go Hurstville as aunt My wanted a haircut.

Great. Kid-sitting for me.

Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore her and all, but as I already mentioned, I really do try hard with kids because I was never really a natural when dealing with them. And plus she is a handful.

First hour, we were drawing, running out of ideas every so often, continued to draw, disturbing my brother watching cricket.

Then I got a headache and asked Brandon to come to my room and take over a little while I relaxed in bed.

Katty then got hungry and we went downstairs to her bag of lunch and she started eating that. Being the nice kid, she really wanted to share her food with me, but everything she had in her bag contained milk products!

Not really bothered, I told her, “I’m fine Katty, you should have it.”
“But I really want you to have it, sis” she says.
“I can’t have it though, I’m allergic to it.”
“Yes you can, you can!”
“Are you the doctor?”
“Yes. Now eat it! I dare you. That means you have to eat it.”
“No it doesn’t. And I can’t eat it.”

Seeing that I wasn’t going to win, I then explained to her my intolerance to lactose, and told her to not force people to eat something because it can be potentially dangerous.

“If your friend is allergic to peanuts or seafood or something, you can’t force them to eat it, Katty.”
“But they won’t die~”
“In extreme cases, they do. Straight away.”

So she continued pulling things from her lunch bag, and asked me if I was able to eat it, and my answer to chocolate, twisties and some lollies were no, but I thanked her for being so generous. I washed and dried her hands and we went upstairs again to hang out in my room.

Then an idea struck me. To watch a DVD! Because my other aunt (aunt Tania) is a movie addict, she let us borrow some movies, and one of them was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I asked Katty if she wanted to watch it and luckily, she said yes.

Yes!

Went downstairs, put the DVD in… nothing… eject. O_o; NOO!! Tell me it isn’t happening!!! Again. To my dismay, the DVD really didn’t play. Great plan ruined.

Great.

I remembered having a few DVDs that might interest her, but problem was they were all sealed in a box (I packed some stuff away since we are moving out shortly). So I told her to draw some more while I looked for the box which contained the DVDs, removed boxes that were stacked on top of that one, unsealed it and took it out.

Luckily, the efforts weren’t wasted when she asked me to put Garfield on. After watching Garfield, she asked me to put Spiderman 1 on, and I told her to watch while I make some sushi for her (she got hungry).

A bit later, our mums came home. (Remark: About time guys. After all, it has been 3 hours!)

But yet, I was thankful ’cause man, during that 3 hour period, I had been worn out; exhausted.

This leaves me with a question: how could anyone possibly want kids?

My dad…

He is a great man.
A wise man.
A reasonable man.

With a weird personality.

When he’s mad at close members of the family, he’s the type to forgive if you’re sweet enough towards him and absolutely hate it when you ignore him even when he’s in the wrong.

And he never admits he’s wrong. Even when it’s obvious he is. He’s good; he’ll turn the situation around and blame YOU, and you can NEVER win against him, no matter what you say.

If you’re not a close family member and you do something that is fairly unreasonable, he won’t forgive you or speak to you, like a broken relation. And it HAS happened before. Twice.

He thinks earning 60k a year is nothing, and we should never aim only that high, yet we earn nothing like that.

He loves it when you talk about cooking, better yet if you WANT to learn cooking off him, but absolutely won’t teach in detail to people other than my brother and I, not even my mum. Me, I avoid cooking at all costs. I like to talk to him about it though, and when he’s slightly ticked off, mention cooking and he’ll forget. Sort of.

He is the only one in the world (I’m convinced) who doesn’t use microwave and bans our household from using one. He even gave it away when we got it as a housewarming present a couple years more than a decade ago.

So anyway. He really hates it when we skip meals, especially breakfast, and because of that, he likes us to wake up early to eat his early (no later than 9am) prepared meals, usually rice or sandwiches.

He hates it when my brother and I sit in front of the computer all day, typing away, lost in cyberland because it’s unhealthy for us. He likes it when we go for walks in the park, especially automatically seeing that my brother and I are lazy piece of shits. And as a habit, we usually do after a meal.

Oh and dinner, we always always eat together at the table, unlike many families I’ve seen.

As you are reading this, you’re probably wondering why I am saying all this.

So why?

Because my dad is angry at us. The both of us.

My brother and I both woke up late today (10:30am) and dad has been ignoring the both of us since we came downstairs for breakfast!

We came down with our cheeky bubbly selves to be greeted by a “hn”. Damn, sweetness didn’t work on him this time. He must be really ticked off.

“Don’t worry, he’ll get over it.” I tell my brother enthusiastically despite dad’s response, or lack thereof.

So after I washed up the dishes, my brother and I automatically got out to the park and walked for about 20 minutes before heading home.

At lunch, we went downstairs to find food. He usually he prepares food for us, but today, zilch. Ok, no problem, we’ll have leftovers from last night.

And again, we scurried to our feet and went walking in the park. Came home and back on the computer.

Okay… not a word still. Surely he’d get over it by dinnertime?

So dinnertime came, and there wasn’t a dinner call for us. Mum told us about it. When we got downstairs, he was already halfway through his dinner. Walked, got home.

Again, not a word. O_o

He didn’t even hop on my brother’s computer to play Chinese chess tonight (they’re usually hovering over the computer)!

Suddenly, I wasn’t so enthusiastic anymore.

In fact, something tells me it’s not good. Not good at all.

eBaying again…

admin January 3rd, 2008

Since I promised to blog, I’m just chilling out to Something for Kate (my absolute favourite band in the world) as writing this post…

I’ve been listing on eBay again. I’ve sold a few now (not many, only a few) since this tragic little experience… (the first part of the experience anyway). Out of the 11 items, 2 didn’t sell, which is alright. But now that I’ve worked out how to sell properly, the main concern is the amount it is going for. I mean sure, before all this, I was worried about whether or not I’d LOSE money AND the item from going on eBay, but now I know how it works, I’m wondering HOW to make the most out of my item.

Why do similar items get more than others?

The exact same item I listed received half as much as the other item listed, and my item was listed as “MINT” (because it was seriously mint!) whereas the other was “GOOD CONDITION”. AND my postage fee cost $2 less than the other one!!! What?!

Sigh. Sometimes I just don’t get it. Just unlucky I guess. Nonetheless, that item sold.

So anyway, today I had 2 listings end at almost the same time. A CD with one bid for 99c and a DVD with no bids at $5. Maybe I expected a little too much for it?

Anyhow. I was to meet Andrew today but when he arrived, the auction ended for the CD, still on 99c. The buyer was prompt and paid via paypal (and it did ask if I wanted to accept payment or not… charging 50c for it) so I got the buyer’s details and sent it off.

Came back with not much hope for the DVD… another one gone to the “Unsold” pile definitely… right?

Opened eBay (for the 100000th time today): Sold to the lovely gentleman living in Melbourne!

So relieved and happy as I was going to relist it for a lower price. Plus the relisting fees and final fees and so on. I’m just waiting for payment now, checking eBay/paypal for another 100000 times.

With this, I wonder, am I overdoing it?
