OPI Funny Bunny

How awesome is the weather lately? I’ve been dressing for summer (bringing along an insurance coat/jacket for the night) for the past week without feeling the slightest cold! Really brightens up my mood, feel refreshed and energised!

Anyway, onto my nail post. I decided on wearing something I bought a while back but haven’t yet used due to the many other colours I wanted to try first.

I chose OPI’s Funny Bunny for a few reasons. Firstly, I liked the name (come on, it’s cute!). Secondly, it was described as a soft white, and it sounded very sweet… so got it. And after applying it, that is exactly what it is; a very soft white.

That said, the formula is very sheer (Iorderline translucent), so I think it’s probably not the best choice for an opaque-finish French manicure. The formula is very smooth, and I love how thick the brush is; a few strokes covers the whole nail.

This is 1 coat of Orly bonder, 5 coats of OPI Funny Bunny, and 1 coat Essie start to finish (wow, 7 coats all up!)

Because of how sheer it is, the first coat looked almost like I had nothing but a gloss layer on. Second coat gave it a light shade of white, but still looked very sheer and a little streaky. It made my hand look a little sick to be honest. Third coat went on, and you can still clearly see my white lunula, pink nail plate, and white nail distal edge underneath (I’ve been told that my distal edge is very white compared to other people’s). Fourth coat started to look in between translucent to opaque.

At the end, I went for a fifth coat, and I was happy with the way it turned out, even though you can still see the distal edge and lunula under (see photo). To me, it looks intended, and shows off the shaped nail in a subtle way. However, I did manage to make a lot of over-the-cuticle brush strokes.

I really like how delicate it looks. Definitely need some patience to apply Funny Bunny if you don’t like your polish too sheer, and probably go for another white polish for a more opaque look (I don’t have OPI’s Alpine snow, but I think that’ll be the one for this purpose).

P.S. Guess who found the bow ring I thought I’d lost?

Essie Mesmerize

I sported Essie’s Mesmerize for dinner tonight; a medium opaque blue.

This is a very pretty blue, and although I don’t have OPI Dating a Royal, I somewhat envision it to look like this shade. It somehow reminds me of OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui, maybe a little darker but brighter with less grey undertones… Out of curiosity, I might swatch them side by side just for a comparison (I have another pair to do as well!).

So yeah, I really like this colour; it’s bold, it’s fun, it’s vivid, and it stands right out! ♥ And plus, I love blue nail polishes (and can never have too many of them)! Moreover, the formula is nice as always; it is creamy and applies very smoothly.

This was 1 coat of Orly Bonder, 2 coats of Essie Mesmerize, and 1 coat of Essie Good To Go.

Essie Bahama Mama

0 Comments so far

So I finally uploaded the pics of my recently applied Bahama Mama by Essie.

Classy, warm, and dark but vibrant, I’m loving this deep plum/wine colour (I’ve been digging the purple shades a bit of late, especially in my clothing choice). Quite nice to apply, though I found that because I perhaps didn’t apply it evenly over the whole nail, I needed the 3 coats to make it completely opaque. Once the 3 coats are on, however, I’m loving it!

This was a coat of Orly Bonder, 3 coats of Essie Bahama Mama, and a coat of Essie Good To Go to finish off.

This colour sort of reminds me of OPI’s lourve me lourve me not… and looking at the pictures, it definitely looks alike. Perhaps in the next couple of days, I’ll swatch the two side-by-side for comparison.

Sally Hansen Kwik Off

I actually did not know about Sally Hansen Kwik Off until I stumbled upon it on the vogue forums, and watched some youtube videos for demonstrations… I found this at Target for less than $5 (or even $4… can’t remember the exact price)… so decided to try it out since it sounded promising!

My polish started chipping (admittedly, I wasn’t taking care of them too well), so it was the perfect excuse to test it out.

Sealed tub: the seal was actually a bit difficult to remove…

Basically, it’s a tub filled with a sponge that is soaked with polish remover soaked sponge. On the sponge there’s three holes for the insertion of the finger… why did that sound so technical? What the heck. Anyway… to remove polish, you supposedly insert your finger, rotate, and take it out.

Dip dip… Twist-twist…

Tah-dah!

Ok… doing this once didn’t completely wipe my polish away; in fact, I had to do it a handful of times.

But surely, this was easy to use, mess-free (I don’t really like tipping polish remover onto my cotton ball), and it didn’t actually dry my nails! And the sponge was really soft.

There’s no indication of how long it’ll last, but assuming that because this is lidded, it won’t die as easily? Guess I’ll find out sooner or later.

Also, I’ve seen somewhere there’s a non-acetone version of this (mine has acetone)… I’d be interested to try that one out as well! Plus, I want to try this product (with or without acetone) with glitter nail polishes; if it removes effectively, maybe then I’ll put on more glitters!

But yes, so far so good!

It’s Essie To Guess What Arrived…

0 Comments so far

Especially when I mention it in the title!

Yes, Mr AG gave me my nail polish order tonight!

My very well packed/protected package.

New polishes to play with! YAY :)

I couldn’t wait to try them on, so I picked out two colours that were dissimilar to any other colours I own; Essie flawless and merino cool (although admittedly, after applying, I wasn’t so sure about this colour combo…)

Flawless is a cute, soft, pastel pink. At first, I thought it looked strange on my skin tone, but I grew to like this colour within… an hour? Haha. Just goes to show I like all colours on nails!

Merino cool is a grey-purple colour. I am quite fond of this colour, especially for the cold weather we’re having at the moment, and can’t wait to do a full mani with it! ^_^

I applied 2 coats each, and the formula was consistent and was really lovely to apply. So a very happy kittycat here :3

All except middle finger: Essie flawless
Middle finger: Essie merino cool

I also used the Orly bonder (base coat), and the Essie good to go (fast drying top coat), and I must say I’m a fan with everything I’ve used for this mani.

The Orly bonder really left a nice surface to apply my polish. I even made a mistake with one of my first coats, and just used a tissue to wipe it off, whilst the base coat stayed. I was impressed, though it didn’t work when I made a mistake with another finger (but that was one was on its 2nd coat).

The Essie top coat really delivered; it dried my polish super quickly and leaves a nice shine, and after 5 minutes, I could go back to what I was doing without Frankensteining my nails with all sorts of unpleasant marks.

So, super satisfied with this order so far!

I’m going to leave this on until I see a chip, and will hopefully swatch the other ones! Oh and I forgot, I will also get an opportunity to try my Sally Hansen kwik off! Yay, exciting!

Edited to add: I did a post on the Sally Hansen Kwik Off here.

OPI Teal The Cows Come Home

I was talking to Miss Fera today about painting our nails on tonight for tomorrow, and we both agreed on this nail polish.

It’s a nice and quick one to apply; lovely consistency, forgiving with mistakes, and it also dried quickly, all pluses. I guess it is a tiny bit sheer, so I always put 3 coats on, but apart from that, I love this polish, and I love the colour; unique and it stands out!

This isn’t actually the first time I’ve applied OPI Teal the cows come home, I think this must be the fourth time… but haven’t actually photographed it before… So this is my attempt at it!

There are a couple of mistakes here and there… but that’s okay, as I was talking to Mr KD on the mobile phone whilst doing my nails.

Can’t wait to see them on Miss Fera!

Orly Space Cadet

0 Comments so far

Had a go at Space cadet (Orly) for the first time. In the bottle, it looks quite intriguing; there’s both a purple and green mix depending on which way you look at it, though I’d say it’s more green surrounding the purple part. So I wondered how it would translate on the nail.

And it looked very intriguing on the nail too, with either a predominant purple or a green (and sometimes, a mix) showing up depending on the angle again! However, I somehow thought both colours would be darker; the purple looks a bit on the pink side (while I thought it’d be more blueish-fushcia) , and the green is a zombie-like colour. Still, great mix, and very unique.

One thing that really stood out was the application; it was super easy and smooth, and although the brush is thin, I found that it was great combined with the formula. So plus one to that!

In terms of taking pictures of it, I thought it was quite hard to get a good representative picture of it, so I took a couple with different angles.

A base coat and 2 coats of space cadet.

I think I might try putting a 3rd tomorrow.

Recapturing OPI Catch Me In Your Net

0 Comments so far

Though I have other polishes that I have not yet swatched as yet, I felt like a little bluey colour for my nails, and tossed up between OPI’s Teal the cows come home and Catch me in your net.

Ended up choosing Catch me in your net, and I’ve truly forgotten how beautifully it applies, and how beautiful it looks on (ok, I’ve only used it one other time).

Again, it was quite hard to capture on camera.
