Kwok Doo Chinese Restaurant, Burwood

0 Comments so far

Being a good little girl, I went out with my parents and grandpa to Burwood today.  We wandered around the shops, and browsed clothes, boring my grandpa in the process.  I bought a cropped tee from Target (Free Fusion) to go with my maxi, and mum and I bought a couple of Giordano basics for $10 each!

Mum had an appointment, so grandpa headed off while I went to mum’s appointed place to accompany her.  However, we got there 45 minute early (sigh, early birds!), and I got bored within 10 minutes of waiting…  So mum asked dad to take me to a place to have lunch.

So we wandered into Kwok Doo half an hour before they closed up to prepare for the dinner session.  It was a very quiet restaurant with background music.  We received great service; the lady there was lovely and always made sure we were okay.

We ordered two dishes and a lemonade (which wasn’t super awesome; I thought it’d be Sprite).

The first dish was a stir fried rice noodle dish (Cantonese: Wat dan har kou gai kou chow hor).  Though a smallish plate, it was very lovely, we enjoyed it, and I would have it again.

The second was the century egg porridge/congee (the photo looks ghastly since it is so white).  This one lacked flavour and ingredients (so I had to mass season it with salt and pepper), but taste wise wasn’t bad.  I guess I wouldn’t order this dish again if I can help it.

Overall, it’s an average place for lunch; I left feeling full but light and comfy.

Failed Cull + I ♥ Stockings, Leggings, Tights, & OTK Socks!

0 Comments so far

Friday night, nothing better than to listen to some music while cleaning my room a bit (since it has become a bit of a pigsty again), prancing around like a ballerina behind closed doors (I was a tad high before that).

Then I got bored of that after 10 minutes… so I moved on to my clothes drawer, which was overflowing with unfolded clothes… yay.

A cull would be lovely, I thought. With mum, we went through everything there, and everything was either “I can wear that to sleep” or “I can layer this under clothes for winter” or “we can use this as rags”… So at the end, I must have actually picked out 5 max to throw out!

What a failed cull!

I didn’t even bother going through my wardrobe after that; I just know that there was no chance I would throw anything out (such a hoarder)! As a side note, I saw somewhere that there’s a phone app called iDresser that’s meant to organise your clothes, and stuff… I wonder if that’s any good… I’d be interested to try it. I’ve always thought the virtual outfit organiser in Clueless an awesome idea!

Anyway, I love love love stockings,  leggings, tights, and OTK socks… and I got curious as to how many pairs of these babies I own. So I did a list. Here goes:

  1. Grey stockings (sheer)
  2. Grey stirrups (sheer)
  3. Urban outfitters bow stockings (sheer)
  4. Cyclone footless tights (mixed sheer and opaque)
  5. Love heart patterned stockings (sheer)
  6. Navy stockings (sheer)
  7. Black opaque stockings (x2)
  8. Red fishnets
  9. Black fishnets
  10. Black stay ups (sheer)
  11. Black stockings (sheer)
  12. Black wool stockings
  13. Grey cable tights
  14. Purple fleece leggings
  15. Navy fleece leggings
  16. Black 3/4 tights
  17. Black mid-length tights
  18. ASOS red tights
  19. Compression tights (x2)
  20. Dotti Argyle tights
  21. White OTK socks (x2)
  22. Black OTK socks (x5)
  23. ASOS black/grey OTK socks
  24. FCUK grey/red OTK socks
  25. Black skull OTK socks (x2)

Finally, My Wine Maxi…

I knew I wouldn’t be too busy at uni today, and since it was so lovely out, I thought today would be the perfect time to wear my Motel maxi skirt (I posted about it here)!

This isn’t something that I’d normally wear, but ever since I saw I online, I’d been so excited to wear it! And I’d received a few comments on it today, which makes me a smiley girl :)

I must admit though, it is a little troublesome to wear; I have to be aware of stairs or it might touch the steps… I have to be aware when I bend down to pick something up or it’ll reach the floor… I have to be careful of my surroundings in case the skirt gets caught on something… And actually, this afternoon, I wasn’t paying attention when I zipped my jacket up, part of the skirt got caught in the zip! Luckily, it came out unharmed… if not, sadface times would have ensued!

ASOS Skirt, Boots, Socks

ASOS sent an email giving a further 10% discount code, and while it isn’t much of a discount, it made me browse… things caught my eye, and before I knew it, I have yet made another order. To be fair, two of the three were already on my watch list beforehand, but never made the order as yet.

Skirt: the pleats and the colours on the skirt is too cute! I ordered this in a size UK 8… hopefully it fits well.

The boots: Part of why I got these was because they were on sale… I also think they looked good, and I was somewhat looking for something like this. I am a size AU 7, and I read somewhere that 2 sizes down would be the UK size, so I ordered the UK 5. Fingers crossed they fit!

The socks: I am in love with socks, leggings, stockings, etc that has to do with the legs. And I don’t have burgundy socks, so I ordered them, because I will find a use for them. Speaking of socks and stockings and leggings, I wonder how many I have now!

Wanted: Jeffrey Campbell 99 Lace Up Wedge Booties

I think I might’ve jumped on the Jeffrey Campbell wedge booties wagon a little late. I have seen them online here and there, or ones that look very similar, and never really paid much attention to them…

Then one day, I was wearing a skirt with stockings, and thought about these booties, and couldn’t get them out of my mind! I think my infatuation for these manifested subconsciously… Now I’m just worried about sizing (read somewhere to size up by 0.5… but I don’t even know my U.S. size to begin with!) and comfort (very mixed reviews on these for the comfort factor actually). On looks alone though, love!!

Ramen Kan Restaurant, Bondi Junction

We popped into Ramen Kan at Bondi Junction for lunch today. It’s a nice and cosy Japanese restaurant, and I remember wanting to go to the one in China town a while back. It was pretty busy when we first sat down at ~3 PM, but was quieter by the time we left half an hour later. The menu was mainly of udons, ramen, and rice dishes, and they had pre-packaged drinks. Prices were very reasonable.

We ended up ordering these:

Deep Fried Prawns With Tartare Sauce

Teriyaki Beef Udon

Ramen Kan Shoyu Ramen

The deep fried prawns were really nice; light on the inside and crispy on the outside, seasoned well, and tastes great!

My udon was fanastic, I was very pleased with it! Great teriyaki taste, silken udon noodles, and the beef had a seared flavour to it. The salad accompanying my udon didn’t look like it’d be my thing, but when I tried it, the sauce was quite flavoursome, and I liked it! I ended up finishing it!

The ramen  had pork, egg, mushrooms in a pork broth with soy sauce. It was nice too (the pork pieces were few but it was very tender), but I think I prefer my udon.

Overall, it was a good experience; tasty food that was great in value. We will be back =]

Pole Shoes (Delight 609) & The Beginners’ Performance

Exhausted, but still feeling the excitement running through me!

So, I popped into High Heels in Surry Hills before my pole lesson at 1 PM, looking to buy some shoes to start elementary off next Wednesday.

I was served by a lovely lady who also did pole, and we struck up a nice conversation while she showed me what shoes were available. Many of the pairs I wanted to try on wasn’t in store, but she kept assuring me they can order in any pair of shoes, and will arrive shortly.

However, she did show me a pair of black Delight, and I instantly took a liking to it! She told me it was probably one of the better pairs to start off with. I tried it on and it felt right, so I ended up getting them…

I got to pole with a couple minutes to spare, and we did the warm up. And then our routine, where I decided to wear the Pleasers. I found that I couldn’t control the stopping of some spins… and was worried with tripping over, but the instructor kept telling me to leave them on.

Fast forward to the performance, and I was shaking visibly. There was only the three of us today; everyone must’ve bailed! Apart from a few minor mistakes and nerves, the performance went okay. The elementary routine was very pretty, and the instructors’ performance was reeeeallly awesome! Then we had a chance to take some photos for a while, which was a lot of fun!

With this, we have “graduated”, yay!!

P.S. My shoes already have scratches… I guess that’s normal, but I didn’t expect it to have scratch marks in the same day I bought them… All’s good, I still hope to get a lot of use out of them!

Pleasers For Pole Dancing!

This whole week, apart from focusing on my work (deadline is 16th Aug), I’ve been searching for platform heels for pole dancing (I signed up to elementary last week!).

After browsing, I’ve pretty much decided on which type of shoes to get.

  1. Brand: Pleasers
  2. Height: 5 to 6 inch heel
  3. Colour: Black on black, black on clear, or red on clear.

So ideally, I wanted shoes like these:

Adore 709

Allure 609

Captiva 609

Delight 609

Kiss 209

See my predictable trend?

I like the looks of these as well, but probably won’t get something like this:

Indulge 540

Kiss 280

Anyway, I was pleased to learn of a store in near Central station that sold Pleasers (and their website looked like they had a big range as well), and plan to buy a pair before my pole lesson on Sunday!
